Major Peter Egerton Warburton, CMG
Born in England in 1813 and was educated in France. He joined the Royal Navy in 1825, and entered the East India Company’s Military College in 1829. In 1835 he was appointed to Adjutant of Marine Battalion in Bombay and became Acting Deputy-Adjutant-General in 1847. 1853 He landed in Western Australia in July 1853, and was appointed South Australia Commissioner of Police the same year. He later earned fame as an explorer.
